Young and talented ensembles and soloists from all over the world will be working very intensively on their repertoire with their masters Philippe Graffin (violin), Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir (viola), Gary Hoffman (cello), and Pascal Devoyon (piano). They are great and passionate chamber music performers, who also have given many master classes all over the world. As a team, their expertise and flexibility add a unique dimension to the course.

An important tradition is created by many Apeldoorn families that open their doors to provide hospitality to the participants. They are invited and advised to use this opportunity.

All classes and most of the concerts take place in the Orpheus theatre, with numerous facilities creating an exclusive atmosphere of enjoying chamber music. All master classes are open to public, as wel as the concerts.

We invite preformed Chamber Music ensembles and soloists to apply. Soloists are offered the opportunity to form an ensemble during the course, if they indicate such in the application form. Participants should be on a high level; for example conservatory students, graduates and postgraduates. Each ensemble will be invited to perform and will be scheduled for at least three classes.

We start on Sunday, August 22 at 17.00h with registration, a social get together and dinner. The master classes will start on Sunday August 23. Next to the masterclasses, several concerts are planned where both participants and masters will perform. The last activity is the closing concert on the evening of Friday, August 28.

More about the masters:

Philippe Graffin
brought back to life the forgotten violin concertos of Fauré, Saint-Saëns and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. He rediscovered original settings of Chausson’s Poème and Ravel’s Tzigane. He is the artistic director of “Consonances”, the chamber music festival of St. Nazaire, France and is invited on a regular basis to appear at the major chamber music festivals across Europe and the US.

Asdís Valdimarsdóttir
has been invited to many prestigious festivals. She appeared as soloist with the London Mozart Players, the London Soloists Chamber orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. In 1995 she joined the Chilingirian String Quartet and was their violist until 2003. She teaches viola at the Utrecht Conservatory  and  on Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.

Pascal Devoyon
has given highly acclaimed recitals in Carnegie Hall, New York Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonic in Berlin and the Queen Elisabeth Hall in London. His repertoire is extensive and varied; he performs the complete Beethoven sonata cycle, major 20th Century works, such as Bartok and Messiaen and works of contemporary composers. Since 1999 he has shared the artistic directorship of the 'Music Alp' festival in France with Dong-Suk Kang.

Charles Neidich
is one of the world’s finest and most widely recorded clarinettists. In the US he has worked with many of the major orchestras and chamber music ensembles. His repertoire of well over 200 solo works includes pieces commissioned or inspired by him, as well as his own transcriptions and compositions. Charles Neidich is on the faculties of the Juilliard School in New York.

Raphael Wallfisch,
professor of cello in Switzerland at the Zürich Winterthur Konservatorium and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, has recorded nearly every major work for his instrument: both the mainstream concerto repertoire and countless lesser-known works. He has also recorded a wide range of British cello concertos. Britain's leading composers have worked closely with Raphael, many having written works especially for him. These include Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Kenneth Leighton, James MacMillan, John Metcalf, Paul Patterson, Robert Simpson, Robert Saxton, Roger Smalley, Giles Swayne, John Tavener and Adrian Williams.
